Sport at Hall Grove

The school firmly believes that a 'sport for all' philosophy together with a strong pursuit of excellence can operate with great success alongside each other at all levels. With this in mind we are proud that every child represents the school in each sport throughout the year from Year 3 to Year 8.

Throughout the school we endeavour to give the children the opportunity to acquire and develop the knowledge, skills and understanding of a wide variety of sporting activities as they progress from Pre-Prep through to the senior part of the school.

Boys' Sport

The major games for boys are football, rugby, hockey and cricket. The school has a strong and competitive fixture list in all three terms. The success of our teams has meant that we regularly achieve success at national level and children often represent their respective counties or equivalent at club level.

Girls' Sport

The major sports for girls are netball, hockey, lacrosse and rounders. Girls' sport is now firmly established on the prep schools circuit and, like the boys, are now competing at a national level.

Where appropriate, the boys and girls participate together (e.g. athletics, tennis and swimming).

Staffing:

  • Mr Ian Tullett is Director of Sport
  • Mrs Kate Maxfield is Head of Girls' Games

We have an experienced and dynamic team of games staff who have either competed at International (Commonwealth Games) or regional level in a range of disciplines.

We are very fortunate in also having the expertise of London Irish Rugby, Chelsea Football and Counties Cricket Academy coaches who assist with lessons and run after school clubs.

The children also get the opportunity to participate in a wide range of other sports including gymnastics, basketball, judo, cross-country running, tennis, golf, canoeing, athletics and swimming.

Sporting Tours

A number of Sporting Tours take place for the Middle and Upper School boys and girls.

The girls visit Jersey to play netball against a selection of prep schools and clubs on the island whilst the boys go on Rugby and Hockey Tours to the South West of England, playing clubs and schools within Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

There is regularly a Cricket Tour to South Africa for boys in Years 7 and 8. In 2014, the inagural tennis tour to Portugal took place, and was a great success. A girls' netball tour to Barbados is scheduled for this year (2015).
