Senior Schools Information

The school is very happy to offer support and guidance to parents when they are considering options for their children beyond Hall Grove. Children leave for a wide range of destinations, generally either at the end of Year 6, or more commonly after Year 8. The beginning of Year 5 is generally the time when parents start giving some thought to life for their children after Hall Grove and are initially advised to attend the Senior Schools’ Fair, which takes place in the Autumn Term each year. At this event, parents will not only get to meet representatives from a dozen or so senior schools but also gain an insight into life after Hall Grove, with representation from boarding and day, co-ed and single sex establishments.

Following this evening, parents are advised to consider a shortlist of two or three schools and book an appointment to discuss this with Mr Graham, who is very happy to discuss all options and the merits of staying on into Years 7 & 8. Mr Lewis (Deputy Headmaster) and Mrs Harris (Head of Pastural Care) are also in a good position to advise.

There are some schools which operate a pre-testing system and some which do not. Beginning to consider options at the start of Year 5 allows plenty of time to register for these exams, which generally take place from January onwards in Year 6. The curriculum in Years 5 & 6 is designed to ensure that the children have covered the relevant material for the pre-tests by the end of the Autumn Term, putting them in a strong position to give of their best.
