For more information, please contact fohgball@gmail.com

The Friends of Hall Grove is an informal group that has been organising social events and fundraising on behalf of parents at Hall Grove since 2011. All parents are invited to take part and meet once a term to share ideas for upcoming events or volunteer to get involved in some capacity. Each event is organised by a small team which forms and dissolves according to need, spreading the load amongst the parent volunteers. All meetings are advertised in the weekly newsletter and are held at school for convenience.  We look forward to welcoming you.

SATURDAY GOLF AND TENNIS LESSONS FOR CHILDREN

Golf and tennis lessons on Saturdays are open to ALL Hall Grove pupils.

Hall Grove School has excellent Golf and Tennis facilities and we have been given the opportunity to use these on a Saturday morning during term times. Any Hall Grove pupil can take advantage of these golf and tennis lessons: they are offered at cost and run on a voluntary basis by Hall Grove parents. They are completely separate to any other after school golf or tennis activities.

Golf lessons are given on the 9-hole course at school by a golf pro and his team from the Berkshire Golf Club. Tennis lessons are given on the school courts by Serviceline tennis professionals. Children are grouped according to age unless the professionals advise otherwise because of ability. Lessons go ahead in inclement weather: tennis will be held in New Hall in these circumstances and the children will work on hand-eye coordination drills, footwork technique, strategy and scoring skills if unable to play games. These facilities may only be used during organised supervised sessions.

Quiz Night 2014

Friday 7th February saw the quiz night being held in the New Hall. What a success it was too. 150 people all ready to test their wits against each other in an informal evening of fun, laughs, fish and chips with old and new friends alike. We had teams from each year group and it was especially lovely to see the Reception year so enthusiastic and getting involved so early on.

The evening's quizmaster was the very able James Cannon, BBC Surrey Radio Breakfast presenter with our quiz set by the very talented Mr Salmond Smith. James put the the likes of Red Hot Quizzie Peppers, Remove II, Charlie's Angels and other delightfully named teams through some serious head scratching. In the end, honours for the evening went to Team Norfolk & Hope. Well done!

Curry Night 2014

Our first ever Friends of Hall Grove event was an informal Curry Night held in New Hall which was transformed for the evening into a Bollywood themed restaurant by the very talented Tanya Thompson. The screen on the stage displayed Bollywood music videos during dinner and the evening’s dancing was kicked off with music provided by Steve’s Discos. Much fun was had by all.

007 themed Ball at Frimley Hall Park Hotel 2014

In May, the Friends of Hall Grove Committee organised a fantastic James Bond themed Ball. Held at Frimley Hall Hotel and supported by a large number of parents, with the gentlemen in black tie and ladies beautifully dressed, the night promised to be glamorous and fun and, it would seem, no one was disappointed. It began with a drinks reception followed by a three course meal during which entertainment kept the Bond theme alive. It wasn’t long before the disco music began, the dance floor started to heave and the real fun commenced. Many parents were clearly having a great time dancing, but it was the casino tables that kept those who either needed a break from dancing, or fancied their luck on the roulette wheel and black jack tables, entertained. At 1am the music finished and, after a fantastic evening, many guests couldn’t believe that it was time to go home. This had been a very successful social event for Hall Grove parents – shaken and stirred it was a night to remember.

Cheese and Wine Master class in New Hall

On a wet and windy night in October the Friends of Hall Grove ran a Cheese and Wine Tasting Evening. The New Hall was transformed into a French vineyard for the evening. Over 80 parents arrived for a fun-filled night, hosted by a professional wine company from Spain, to learn about (and, of course, taste) many exclusive wines and their accompaniments.  The event was a great success with new friendships and a fair few headaches providing a reminder of the evening’s enjoyment.

Comedy Store in New Hall 2014

New Hall was transformed into Hall Grove's very own Comedy Store for a much anticipated opportunity to laugh off the Winter blues. Following a warm welcome, and a fish and chips supper from Oysters in Lightwater, our compère for the evening, Geoff Whiting, took to the stage. With some help from the braver members of the audience, he had the capacity crowd in stitches and ready to welcome the line up of comics. Seeking to get their big break, they all kept us well entertained with some nicely observed humour and engaging stand-up routines. Of particular note was Tom Hayward, an up and coming act, whose energetic introduction took us all back to our own school days standing in the Sports Hall and twirling around to find a space! The headline act for the evening, local and ex-Woodcote House boy Paul Kerensa, literally had people crying with laughter as he demonstrated the calibre that has earned him writing credits with the Miranda Hart show. A teacher in a former life, he chose the unlikely medium of equations to prove that maths jokes can be fun!
